Atlantic Sun All-Academic Team
Macon, Ga. – USC Upstate senior James Fowlkes was named to the Atlantic Sun All-Academic Team on Monday in recognition of his performance this season on the field and in the classroom. He was a unanimous selection to the team.
Fowlkes earned his degree in Mass Media and held the highest GPA among male Upstate student-athletes at 3.92.
The Soddy Daisy, Tenn. native led Upstate in hits (63), home runs (10), RBI (38), stolen bases (6) and slugging percentage (.563), while finishing in the top-five in the A-Sun in home runs, triples and sacrifice flies. Fowlkes hit Upstate's lone grand slam of the season in the eighth inning during a 14-1 win over The Citadel on March 22 while driving in five runs. Against Kennesaw State on April 17, Fowlkes finished a triple shy of the cycle as he went 4-for-5 with two singles, one double, home run, two runs scored and three RBI. Fowlkes reached base in a team-best 23 consecutive games from March 20 against Radford through the May 4 contest at South Carolina.
Defensively, Fowlkes finished with a .964 fielding percentage and four outfield assists.
Lipscomb's Lee Soloman was named the Baseball Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
