
Pair of Spartans Earn Summer All-Star Honors

Spartanburg, S.C. – A pair of USC Upstate baseball players were recently named to All-Star teams in the New England Collegiate Baseball League as well as the Florida Collegiate Summer League.
Rising junior Charlie Carpenter has been named to the New England Collegiate Baseball League All-Star Team. Carpenter, a member of the Newport Gulls, was named to the South team as a reserve catcher for Sunday's contest. Carpenter currently leads the Gulls with a .351 average with 20 hits, seven doubles, two home runs and 13 RBI.
Incoming transfer Russell Schwertfeger was named a Florida Collegiate Summer League All-Star and went 2-for-2 with a pair of singles in Saturday's All-Star Game. Schwertfeger is hitting .372 with 32 hits, three doubles, two triples and 16 RBI with 11 runs scored in 22 games with the Altamonte Springs Boom.
