
Spartans Wrap Up Summer Collegiate Leagues

Spartanburg, S.C. – Several current and incoming members of the USC Upstate baseball team spent their summer playing in five different summer leagues.
Five Spartans were named to midseason All-Star teams. J.J. Shimko was a starter in the Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League (PGCBL) All-Star game and earned postseason PGCBL All-Star recognition. Shimko was also named co-MVP of the Albany Dutchmen. Charlie Carpenter was named an All-Star in the New England Collegiate Baseball League while incoming transfer Russell Schwertfeger earned a spot on the Florida Collegiate Summer League All-Star team.
Brendan Brundage and Jordan Miller were both members of the Midwest Collegiate League midseason and postseason All-Star team. Additionally, Blake Whitney led the Valley League with 55 strikeouts.
