Spartanburg, S.C. – The USC Upstate men's golf team tees off its 2016 fall campaign this week as the Spartans host the six-team Bridgestone Match Play from the par 72, 7003-yard Legends Course at Chateau Elan in Braselton, Ga.
Along with Upstate, the five other teams competing at the Bridgestone Match Play are Lipscomb, Jacksonville, South Alabama, Presbyterian College and High Point.
The opening day features 36 holes beginning at 8:30 a.m. Monday morning. The scores following action on day one will then be used to seed the teams for Tuesday's match play format.
This year marks the second straight season that the Spartans have hosted the Bridgestone Match Play. Last season, Upstate went 0-2 after dropping matches to ASUN schools Lipscomb and Jacksonville. Taylor White and Tom Schofield both earned individual wins at last year's event as White won against Lipscomb and Schofield versus Jacksonville.
White and Schofield are two of six players returning this season for Upstate. The other four players that are returning for 2016-17 are Matt Carter, Alejandro Lopez, Andrew Purcell and Trey Taylor. The Spartans also welcome four newcomers in Hunter Fry, Sam Merrell, Sean Stanistreet and Jordan Warnock.
Upstate will be sending out a five-player lineup this week in Stanistreet, Fry, Warnock, Carter and White. Schofield is playing as an individual.
The Legends Course at Chateau Elan is the host course for the 2017 ASUN Men's Golf Championship.
