Carter Leads Upstate on Day One of Camden Collegiate Invitational

Camden, S.C. – Matt Carter opened play at the Camden Collegiate Invitational on Saturday with rounds of 72 and 69 to sit in a tie for 14^th place and lead the USC Upstate men's golf team from the par 70, 6,455-yard Camden Country Club.

Upstate currently sits in a three-way tie for 13^th place with Columbia and Radford after shooting a combined score of 589 (297-292).

Host South Carolina leads the Camden Collegiate Invitational after the first day at 11-under par 549. Individually, James Madison's Shota Ozaki sits atop the leaderboard by one stroke over three players with a 5-under 135.

A LOOK AT THE SCORECARD

The Spartans are tied for third among the tournament field in par 3 scoring at 2-over with a 3.08 stroke average.
Upstate is also tied for third with 56 pars.
The Spartans finished the day with a 4.36 stroke average in par 4 scoring and 2-under par 4.87 stroke average in par 5 scoring.
Upstate added 11 birdies through the opening two rounds.
Carter posted his second round in the 60's this season after carding a 69 in the second round. The junior has the two lowest scores for the Spartans this year after posting a 68 at the Wolfpack Intercollegiate.
Overall, Upstate had eight rounds in the 70's or better from Carter, Jordan Warnock, Reid Bedell, Hunter Fry and Sun Paripunna.
Carter and Paripunna are among the top players in the tournament for par 3 scoring at 1-under par with a 2.80 stroke average.
Carter also leads the team with 14 pars to rank tied for fourth at the Camden Collegiate Invitational while Bedell added 13.
