Upstate Moves up Three Spots on Second Day of East Bay Deli Classic

Kiawah Island, S.C. – The USC Upstate men's golf team improved its second round score by 27 strokes and moved up three spots into eighth place of the East Bay Deli Classic on Monday from the par 72, 6,911-yard Turtle Point Golf Course.
After shooting an opening round 320 on Monday, the Spartans carded a second round 293 for a combined score of 613 and are in eighth place. A total of three strokes separate Upstate from Memphis in seventh place and four behind sixth place High Point.
Tennessee continues to lead the East Bay Deli Classic and is 10 strokes ahead of Chattanooga with a team score of 584. A three-way tie highlights the top of the individual leaderboard as Emile Menard of High Point and Tennessee's Rhys Nevini-Wharton and Lorenzo Scalise are even at 1-over par 145.
A LOOK AT THE SCORECARD
- The Spartans played their last nine holes on Monday at 5-under par to move into eighth place of the team standings.
- The 293 carded was the sixth-best among the tournament field behind Chattanooga, Tennessee, Jacksonville State, College of Charleston and Memphis.
- Matt Carter had the lowest score of the day for Upstate as his second round 71 moved him into a tie for 15th place along with teammate Reid Bedell at 150. Bedell compiled his second straight round of 75.
- Carter was one of four Spartans to improve on their first round score led by Jordan Warnock and Conner Conkel. Warnock cut 16 strokes off with his second round 72 and Conkel 13 strokes to finish with a 75. Hunter Fry had a one stroke improvement from Sunday.
- Carter collected one eagle during his second round and is the team's top performer in par 5 scoring at 3-under par with a 4.63 stroke average.
- Conkel leads Upstate in par 3 scoring at even-par with a 3.00 stroke average while Bedell has a 1-over score and 3.13 stroke average.
- Bedell is averaging a team-best 4.20 stroke average in par 4 scoring.
- Warnock and Sun Paripunna have combined for 43 pars over the first two rounds with Warnock leading the way with 22 and Paripunna 21.
