
Spartans Travel to Virginia Tech, Campbell this Weekend

Spartanburg, S.C. – A two-game roadtrip greets the USC Upstate women's basketball team this weekend as the Spartans face Virginia Tech at 9 p.m. Friday followed by a 2 p.m. matinee against Campbell on Sunday.
Upstate is 0-2 following an 83-69 loss in its home opener Wednesday night against Presbyterian College. A'Lexxus Davis scored a career-high 16 points. Tamera Thorpe led the Spartans with 17 points, while Morgan Williams just missed a double-double with nine points and 11 rebounds. Anda Kuzmina scored 11 points for the second straight game and is Upstate's leading scorer with an average of 11.0 points per game.
Virginia Tech is 2-0 with home wins over Wagner and Auburn. Taylor Emery has scored 20 points in each of the Hokies first two games. Regan Magarity leads Virginia Tech with 10.0 rebounds per game while Chanette Hicks has dished out a team-best 14 assists. Kenny Brooks is in his second season as head coach, sporting a 22-14 record at the school and a 359-136 career record.
Campbell is 0-1 following a season-opening 66-48 loss at Kansas on Sunday. Summer Price led Campbell with 18 points, followed by Tatyana Carver with 10 points. Lauren McNamara-Clement grabbed a team-best six rebounds against the Jayhawks. The Fighting Camels will play William Peace on Friday at 7 p.m. Ronny Fisher is in his second year as head coach and is 21-11 at the school.
Virginia Tech leads the all-time series 2-0, although both Hokie wins came by less than 10 points. Friday is the first meeting between Upstate and Virginia Tech since Dec. 15, 2013. Campbell leads the all-time series 6-3 following a 56-41 win at the G.B. Hodge Center on Dec. 15, 2016.

Upstate returns to the Hodge Center next week, hosting crosstown foe Converse at 5 p.m. Tuesday and Omaha at 3 p.m. Friday.
