
Spartans Host Omaha in Friday Matinee

Spartanburg, S.C. – USC Upstate and Omaha will meet each other at the G.B. Hodge Center on Friday afternoon as the Spartans and Mavericks tangle at 3 p.m.
Upstate is 1-4 following a 71-51 victory over Converse on Tuesday. Rylie Parkhurst scored a career-high 15 points, followed by Brittany Delva with 14, Tamera Thorpe with 13 and Anda Kuzmina with 11. Delva dished out a career-high 10 assists and is the first Spartan to record 10 or more assists in a game since Tyra Smith had 11 assists against Stetson on Feb. 29, 2012. A'Lexxus Davis and Morgan Williams grabbed 10 rebounds each.
Omaha is 2-2 on the season having won its last two games. The Mavericks opened the season with road losses to Bradley and Kansas State before claiming home victories over Montana State and Florida A&M. Amber Vidal leads the team with an average of 13.8 points per game with Claire Killian (11.8 points per game) and Ellie Brecht (10.3 points per game) also averaging double figures. Jay Bridgeman is the leading rebounder with 5.3 rebounds per game. Brittany Lange is in her fifth season as head coach.
Friday's contest is the first all-time meeting between the schools. Upstate is 3-1 against current members of The Summit League with two wins over IPFW and one over Western Illinois with its setback coming at the hands of Oral Roberts.
