
Spartans Travel to Gardner-Webb Tuesday Morning

Spartanburg, S.C. – For the first time in the Division I era, the USC Upstate women's basketball team will tip-off prior to noon as the Spartans travel to Gardner-Webb on Tuesday for an 11 a.m. start inside Paul Porter Arena.
Upstate is 1-5 following a 69-66 loss to Omaha on Friday afternoon. Tamera Thorpe finished with a team-best 20 points. It was the second time this season that the junior has finished with 20 or more points. Morgan Williams scored a career-high 15 points while Anda Kuzmina dished out a career-high five assists.
Gardner-Webb is 4-2 following an 83-26 win over Montreat on Saturday afternoon. The Runnin' Bulldogs have wins over Pfeiffer, Morehead State, Furman, and Montreat with losses to Kentucky and Central Florida. Tierra Huntsman leads the team with an average of 17.0 points and 6.0 rebounds per game. Alexus Hill is averaging 12.8 points per game while Savannah Plentovich is scoring an average of 10.8 points per game. Rick Reeves is in his 13th season at the school and 31st season overall.
Tuesday's contest is the ninth all-time meeting between the schools with Gardner-Webb holding a 5-3 lead. The Runnin' Bulldogs defeated Upstate 57-53 at the Hodge Center last season.

Upstate returns to the Hodge Center later this week, hosting Bob Jones on Thursday at 5 p.m. before welcoming Furman for a 2 p.m. Sunday matchup.
