Upstate Stays in Town for Wofford Invitational

Spartanburg, S.C. – The USC Upstate men's golf team will stay home for its fifth tournament of the spring on Monday and Tuesday as it is set to participate in the 29th Annual Wofford Invitational from the par 72, 6648-yard Country Club of Spartanburg.
Head coach Todd Lawton will be sending out a five-player lineup for the tournament consisting of Matt Carter, Taylor White, Sun Paripunna, Jordan Warnock and Trey Taylor. Tom Schofield and Sean Stanistreet are also competing as individuals.
Upstate is one of 11 teams competing at the Wofford Invitational along with host Wofford, Appalachian State, Austin Peay, Bethune-Cookman, Francis Marion, George Mason, Gardner-Webb, North Dakota State, Presbyterian College and Radford.
The Wofford Invitational is a 54-hole tournament played over the course of two days. Monday will feature 36 holes of competition and Tuesday will feature the final 18 holes. Both days will begin at 9:30 a.m. with a shotgun start.
The Spartans last competed March 24-26 at the Furman Intercollegiate and finished in 15th place after compiling their lowest 54-hole score this season of 881 (294-293-294). Upstate had its lowest round of the season of 293 on the second day and concluded the event seventh in par 3 scoring with a 3.25 stroke average while shooting an average of 4.26 on par 4 holes. The Spartans also went 15-under par with a 4.75 stroke average in par 5 scoring.
Carter led Upstate individually with rounds of 72-71-71 for a 2-under 214 and finished tied for 14th place. Carter tied for the team-lead with 11 birdies and ranked tied for fifth among the tournament field in par 3 scoring at even-par with a 3.00 stroke average. He was also tied for sixth with 35 pars.
Warnock tied with Carter for first on the team in birdies while Paripunna also tied for fifth in par 3 scoring.
For his performance at the Furman Intercollegiate, Carter was named the ASUN Men's Golfer of the Week for the first time in his career on March 30.
