USC Upstate Completes Day One of Sea Best Invitational

Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla. – Jordan Warnock posted scores of 75 and 70 to lead the USC Upstate men's golf team on Monday as the Spartans opened their spring season with the first two rounds of the Sea Best Invitational from the par 70, 6873-yard TPC Sawgrass – Dye's Valley Course.
USC Upstate currently sits 13th in the team standings after compiling rounds of 299 and 308 to sit a 607 following day one action.
Arkansas leads the Sea Best Invitational after the first day with a combined score of 549 (282-267), leading second place South Florida by four strokes and third place Liberty by five. On the individual leaderboard, Liberty's Ervin Chang and William Register of North Carolina are tied at 6-under par 134.
A LOOK AT THE SCORECARD
- The Sea Best Invitational field consists of some of the top collegiate golf programs in the country ranked in the top 50 nationally including LSU (11), Arkansas (20), Duke (23), North Carolina (24), North Florida (27), Tennessee (28) and South Florida (43).
- The Spartans concluded the first day with a 3.28 stroke average in par 3 scoring, 4.43 stroke average in par 4 scoring and 5.20 stroke average in par 5 scoring.
- USC Upstate also compiled 108 pars and 13 birdies.
- Warnock was the top individual performer on Monday with a combined score of 145 to sit in a tie for 46th place.
- Matt Carter had the second-lowest score of the day with a second round 72 and is tied for 62nd position at 150 (72-78).
- Sam Merrell (T-72nd, 153), Sun Paripunna (T-78th, 159) and Reid Bedell (80th, 160) round out the individual standings for the Spartans.
- Warnock was one of the top performers on Monday in par 5 scoring with a score of 2-under and a 4.50 stroke average.
- Warnock also leads USC Upstate in par 4 scoring (4.29 stroke average), 24 pars and five birdies, and is second in par 3 scoring at even-par with a 3.00 stroke average.
- Merrell has a team-best 1-under par score on par 3 holes with a 2.88 stroke average.
- Carter is tied with Warnock for the team-lead with 24 pars and 4.29 stroke average in par 4 scoring.
- Bedell is second on the team in par 5 scoring a 1-under with a 4.75 stroke average.
- Merrell contributed three birdies during the first two rounds while Paripunna and Bedell each had two, and Carter one.
