Spartanburg, S.C. – USC Upstate was unable to overcome an early deficit as the Spartans lost at Wofford 10-2 on a blustery afternoon at Russell C. King Field on Wednesday.

Wofford improves to 11-6 while USC Upstate falls to 8-8-1.

Scoring Breakdown

Bottom 2^nd – Wofford scored two runs as a result of two USC Upstate errors.
Bottom 3^rd – McClain Bradley reached on a walk with one out, stole second and scored on a Mack Nathanson single.
Top 4^th – Pat Raiff led off the inning with his first home run of the season to get USC Upstate on the board. Charlie Carpenter followed Raiff with a walk and scored on a two-out Russell Schwertfeger single to bring the Spartans within a run.
Bottom 5^th – Andrew Orzel drove home a run thanks to a two-out single.
Bottom 6^th – Colin Davis led off the inning with a single and scored on a Ty Reginelli base hit. The Terriers added another run on a Bradley base hit for a 6-2 lead.
Bottom 7^th – Orzel reached on a one-out double and scored on a Colin Davis double.
Bottom 8^th – The Terriers added a run on a sacrifice bunt with two more runs scoring on a double by Orzel.

Notables

Raiff went 1-for-3 with a home run, run scored and RBI.
Schwertfeger finished 1-for-4 with a single and RBI.
Toran Shahidi went 1-for-3 with a double.
Mason Stewart and Austin Morgan each had a single.
Orzel went 3-for-4 with two doubles, a single, two runs scored and three RBI to lead the Terrier offense.
Davis went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI.
Matt Ellmyer (2-0) earned the win as he allowed three hits with two walks and three strikeouts in 3.1 scoreless innings of relief.
Jacob Thiessen (0-2) took the loss after allowing three runs, one earned, on three hits with two walks and five strikeouts in 4.0 innings.
USC Upstate committed a season-high four errors.
