CHARLOTTE, N.C. – USC Upstate's Jonathan Loy has been named to the Big South Men's Outdoor Track & Field All-Academic Team for 2020, as announced by the conference office on Friday afternoon.
The Thomasville, N.C. native is majoring in secondary education and boasts a GPA of 3.90. "Jonathan is a great example of what a student-athlete is by excelling in the classroom and at competitions. He has maintained a high GPA along with running PR's this cross country and indoor season," said head coach Carson Blackwelder.
Though the year was cut short ahead of the 2020 outdoor season, Loy finished his sophomore indoor season with a trio of personal records and top-10 all-time program performances. He ran a personal best in the 3000m (9:09.10) and 5000m (15:48.98) at the Big South Indoor Championships after setting a PR in the mile at the Virginia Tech Challenge with a time of 4:34. All three of his PRs rank 10th in each respective event on Upstate's all-time men's indoor performance list.
The Big South Men's Outdoor Track & Field All-Academic Team consists of one student-athlete from each institution that meets the criteria of having completed at least one academic year at the institution, maintains at least a cumulative 3.0 grade-point average and is of sophomore standing (academically and athletically). The team and Scholar-Athlete of the Year award are selected by the Big South Conference Sports Information Directors. This year's team combined for a 3.68 GPA, and is as follows:
