Event Preview
Returning to the course looking to continue its momentum from its tournament earlier in its fall slate, including a pair of all-tournament team members and a program-low, relative to par team round at the Sea Best Jacksonville Classic, USC Upstate women's golf heads to the South Carolina Lowcountry for the Buccaneer Classic.
Â
In the opening round of the Sea Best Jacksonville Classic, the Spartans carded a three-under-par 285, the program's lowest round to par in its history and the program's second-lowest round (total strokes) in program history—setting this benchmark for the second consecutive event.
Â
Leading to its historic opening-round score, Upstate benefitted from three players fashioning rounds of par or better with redshirt sophomore Praew Nontarux leading the group, posting the second-lowest 18-hole score (68; -4) of her career—tied for the fifth-lowest round total in program history. Also in the round, redshirt junior Kathryn Elliott carded the program's first albatross as she holed out from 220 yards with a five-wood on Marsh Landing Country Club's par 5, 480-yard sixth hole.
Â
Overall, redshirt junior Beem Pabsimma placed third at the Sea Best Jacksonville Classic while Nontarux tied for fourth, giving Upstate a pair of top-five finishers for the first time since the Golfweek Spring Invitational last season.
