Praew Nontarux's Career-Low 54-Hole Total Headlines Another Momentous Event for Women's Golf

KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. – Taking to the course for the third time in its 2021 fall slate, USC Upstate women's golf continued its momentous run to open the season with another event being highlighted by career-low low rounds and program-low totals as the team wrapped play at the Buccaneer Classic.

Fashioning a top-five low 54-hole team total for the event (882; tied for third lowest 54 hole total in program history), all six Spartan golfers competing at the Buccaneer Classic carded a round of 73 (+1) or better with four Spartans accomplishing the feat en route to a final round 288 (E). Upstate's final round 288 tied for the third-lowest overall round and round relative to par in program history.

As a team, Upstate fashioned scores of 300-294-288-882 (+18) to finish tied for sixth, claiming the team's second top-10 finish of the season. The finish also secured the Spartans as the top-finishing team from the Big South Conference, topping four other conference foes.

Leading the way, redshirt sophomore Praew Nontarux claimed a spot on her third All-Tournament Team of the season, tying for fourth at the Buccaneer Classic. She—like Upstate as a whole—saw her scores improve in each round, marking down scores of 74-70-69-213 to finish three-under-par. Nontarux's stroke total represented the lowest 54-hole total of her career and third-lowest in program history while ranking as the second-lowest 54-hole total relative to par in program history.

The Buccaneer Classic also featured three Spartans firing or tying their career-low round as redshirt junior Kathryn Elliott tied her career-low round with an opening-round 72 while freshman Elin Wahlgren and redshirt sophomore Abigayle Hatcher fired their career-low rounds in the final round, carding 72 and 73, respectively.

The 2021 Buccaneer Classic marks the third consecutive event where USC Upstate has carded a top-five low 54-hole team total in 2021, marking in a final round 288 (E). The total tied for the third-lowest overall and third-lowest relative to par round in program history.
Leading Upstate, Praew Nontarux fashioned the lowest 54-hole total of her career (213; -3) with the total representing the second-lowest 54-hole total relative to par and the third-lowest overall 54-hole tally in program history.
En route to posting the best 18 and 54-hole totals of her career, Elin Wahlgren tied for second in the Buccaneer Classic field in total pars, marking in 40 in the event.
Carding an eagle on Kiawah Island – Oak Point's 500-yard, par-5 eighth hole, Suwarin Yord-in fashioned one of two eagles in the event, doing so in the second round.
