University of South Carolina Upstate vice chancellor and director of athletics Daniel Feig and USC Upstate Interim Vice Chancellor for Advancement Kim Jolley announced that the University has named Scott Netkovick as Associate Athletic Director for Development and Major Gifts Officer.Â
Â
Netkovick is no stranger to USC Upstate as he has served as the University's Annual Giving Officer since November 2019. He becomes the lead contact for major gifts to the athletic department, and the primary contact for the U Club, and the U Club's two signature events – Sparty's Ball and Auction (May 22, 2021) and the Spartan Golf Classic. He will also retain responsibilities within major gift fundraising outside of athletics for the USC Upstate Foundation.
Â
"When this position opened, I wanted to be sure we hired someone with an athletics passion that truly understood the challenges we face in intercollegiate athletics. I wanted to be sure this hire could build relationships within our department and with our alumni, while building a bridge across campus to the University Foundation and into the greater Upstate region," said Director of Athletics Daniel Feig. "With Scott being a former head collegiate baseball coach and having so many years of university collegiate fundraising experience, I quickly realized we had an individual with all of those qualities on campus already that could hit the ground running and take our fundraising efforts to the next level, and I couldn't be happier to partner with him in those efforts!"
Â
During his time at Upstate, Netkovick has revamped the USC Upstate Foundation's Annual Giving efforts by planning, designing, and implementing all aspects of a comprehensive annual giving program, including direct mail, digital campaigns, faculty/staff giving, and student/young alumni philanthropy.
Â
"I am really excited about returning to athletics and getting to work hands on with our Athletic Administration, Head Coaches and student-athletes. Athletics is a vital part of the USC Upstate campus and I look forward to helping enhance every aspect of the student-athlete experience," said Netkovick.
Â
Specific to athletics, Netkovick has worked directly with Upstate head coaches to create new opportunities for philanthropic support to help with operational shortfalls during the past year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. During this fiscal year, Netkovick has helped increase the overall support of USC Upstate athletics by 104%.
Â
"Since arriving on the USC Upstate campus in fall of 2019, Scott has made a tremendous impact on so many of our giving programs. A strong fundraising background combined with many years of athletic experience, Scott will bring his 'A' game to this position," noted Interim Vice Chancellor for Advancement Kim Jolley.
Â
Before arriving at USC Upstate, he spent ten years working at Elms College in Chicopee, MA, serving as the Assistant Director of Annual Giving (2008-2013) and Head Baseball Coach (2013-2019). As a head coach Netkovick became the all-time wins' leader in baseball program history with 104 victories. He also led his team to five straight New England Collegiate Conference postseason appearances and was selected as the 2016 NECC Coach of the Year.
Â
As a versatile member of Elms' athletic staff, he chaired the Green and Gold Golf Tournament, which raised over $10,000 annually for the department and served as an advisor for the Student Athletic Advisory Committee (SAAC).
Â
Additionally, while at Elms, he served as an adjunct professor of Sport Management in the Division of Business and served as Intramurals Coordinator.Â
Â
Netkovick earned a B.A. in Business Management '08, and MBA '13, from Elms College.
He and his fiancé reside in Simpsonville.
