SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Entering the night with a six-game home winning streak and off to its best start in Big South play, USC Upstate men's basketball, unfortunately, saw its home winning streak come to an end behind a 78-63 setback at the hands of Campbell Wednesday night.

How It Happened
First Half
- Getting to the free throw line during its first possession of the game, Campbell jumped out to an early lead by scoring the first five points of the game en route to claiming a 7-3 lead during the game's first two-and-a-half minutes. Stopping the Camels from going on an extended scoring run was Mysta Goodloe who canned his first attempt from long range.
- Trailing by four ahead of the game's first media timeout, the Spartans steamed towards the stoppage with a 6-0 scoring run to take the lead for the first time in the half. Campbell regained the lead for mere seconds before a Jordan Gainey three gave Upstate the lead for the final time in the half heading into the under-16 timeout.
- Out of the timeout, the next two points came from the charity stripe for the Camels who tied the game at 12 apiece. The Spartans answered with back-to-back field goals, a three from Justin Bailey and a layup from Jordyn Surratt to build back Upstate's advantage.
- Entering the final 10 minutes of the half with a five-point lead, Upstate held Campbell without consecutive field goals for the remainder of the half. The Spartans and Camels scored evenly with one another during the span as Upstate grew its lead to six heading into the locker room.
Second Half
- Wrangling momentum and regaining the lead for the first time in nearly 20 minutes of game action, Campbell opened the half on a 9-0 scoring run. Gainey snuffed the run with a floater in the lane before helping the Spartans regain the lead with back-to-back threes, scoring the first eight points of the half for Upstate.
- Doing its 9-0 scoring run one possession better following Gainey's threes that put Upstate ahead, the Camels crafted an 11-0 scoring run. The run allowed Campbell to reclaim the lead for the final time in the game with Gainey again snapping the scoring run, scoring the first 10 Spartan points of the second half.
- After falling behind for the final time, the Spartans cut the Campbell lead to four with six minutes left to play as Trae Broadnax dropped consecutive baskets for the Spartans. Broadnax's layups came following a Khydarius Smith layup as Upstate outscored the Camels 6-2 to cut the advantage.
- Closing out the half, Campbell fabricated another long scoring run, this time a 9-0 run, to grow its lead to 16 points—the largest of the game with one minute remaining in the game. The Camels benefit from the free throw line, scoring its final five points from the charity stripe.
Notable
- In Wednesday's game, Campbell attempted 36 free throw attempts, the most by an opponent this season—four opponents attempted 30 or more free throws in a game last season. The Spartans attempted just three free throws with one non-technical foul leading to free throw attempts.
- With his game-high 22 points versus Campbell, Jordan Gainey secured his sixth 20-plus point scoring game of the season. His six such efforts this season mark a career-high for the sophomore who posted five 20-plus point scoring efforts last season.
- Dropping 11 points to join Gainey in double-figures against the Camels, Trae Broadnax has scored in double-figures in six straight contests—the longest streak of games with 10 or more points in his career. The streak includes all five of the Spartans' Big South games as he's the lone Spartan with double-digit points in each league game.
- With Mysta Goodloe's three that started the scoring for the Spartans Wednesday, Upstate's streak of games with a made three-pointer extended to 856 games. The streak dates back to the 1994-95 season and includes each of the Spartans' 489 games at the NCAA Division I level.
