Tournament Preview
After opening the year with a program-record 54-hole team scoring total for the second straight season, USC Upstate heads back to the course looking to carry momentum from the season's first event into the Eagle Classic, returning to Rock Hill (S.C.) Country Club for the first time since the 2020-21 season.
Opening the season at the Elon Invitational, the Spartans tied the program-low 54-hole scoring total, carding an 871 at the event behind two of the top-10 lowest 18-hole team totals in program history. Upstate turned in scores of 298-284-289-871, tying for fourth at the Elon Invitational while each member of the Spartan lineup was separated by eight strokes—the lone single-digit separation among the top-15 lowest 54-hole scoring totals in program history.
En route to Big South Freshman Golfer of the Week honors, freshman Supatta Puttanavarat placed fourth at the tournament, carding the third-lowest 54-hole scoring total by a freshman (t-13th-lowest overall) in program history and the lowest scoring total for a freshman in her debut. She fashioned scores of 72-68-76-216 with her second-round 68 also marking the lowest round by a freshman in her debut in program history.
The Spartans finished the Elon Invitational with four top-25 finishers on the final leaderboard with senior Suwarin Yord-in joining Puttanavarat in the top-15, tying for 14th behind totals of 74-72-72-218.
At the Eagle Classic, Upstate competes at the event for the first time since the 2020-21 season with this season's trip marking the ninth time the Spartans have competed in an event hosted by Winthrop in Rock Hill, S.C. Each of the past two trips to the tournament (2019-20 and 2020-21) have proven fruitful for Upstate, winning a pair of team championships each season.
Two Spartans have competed in the event when Upstate last competed at Rock Hill Country Club with redshirt senior Preaw Nontarux and Yord-in competing, claiming second and seventh-place finishes, respectively.
