Back on the course following a nearly three-week layoff and carrying the momentum of the team's first tournament victory of the season, USC Upstate women's golf seeks a second straight tournament title at the Terrier Intercollegiate, competing on the team's home course Monday and Tuesday at the Carolina Country Club.
The Spartans' latest trip to the Eagle Classic—the team's last tournament prior to the Terrier Intercollegiate—culminated in each member of the team's lineup claiming top-20 event finishes, earning Upstate its third straight tournament championships in as many trips to the event. Overall, six Spartans finished the Eagle Classic with top-20 finishes as Upstate fashioned marks of 318-313-312-943.
Upstate placed three players in the top 10 on the Eagle Classic's final leaderboard with redshirt senior Preaw Nontarux earning All-Tournament Team honors, placing third, carding scores of 77-75-79-231. Two other Spartans, senior Suwarin Yord-in and sophomore Rylie Kosney, joined Nontarux with top-10 placements, finishing sixth and 10th, respectively, behind totals of 79-80-74-233 and 82-76-81-239.
At the Terrier Intercollegiate, the Spartans enter the 2023 iteration of the event as the returning team champion and returning the event's individual champion—Nontarux.
Entering the final round sitting fifth on the leaderboard and nine strokes off the lead, Upstate took it upon itself to erase the deficit, doing so with an incredible stretch of golf over the final six holes on a very tough Carolina Country Club course while over this stretch, the Spartans finished even par with each member of the team's fivesome carding a birdie on the 18th hole. Leading to her claim at the top of the leaderboard, Nontarux took the team's lead over the final six holes, as she finished the stretch two-under-par to claim medalist honors.
