Overview:
USC Upstate most recently dropped a few conference games against Campbell in Buies Creek last weekend. The Spartans now sit 3-3 in conference while having a 25-6 overall record on the season. Furman enters the double header with a 3-0 conference record while sitting 10-18 overall. Against the Paladins, the Spartans lead the series 21-2 which includes a 10-game and a seven-game winning streak. Upstate averages 4.96 runs per game against Furman and totals 114 runs versus Furman's 52 total runs.
Players to Watch:
USC Upstate: Denver Lauer had a decent showing against the Fighting Camels as she finished the weekend with a .500 batting average, .500 on base percentage, and a 1.125 slugging percentage. Lauer stacked two runs, four hits, four RBI, one triple, one homerun and two stolen bases.
Upstate lead the conference in batting (.316 avg.), pitching (1.32 ERA), and fielding (.972%). Kelly leads the conference with a 0.93 ERA while Maddie Drerup sits third with a 1.68 ERA. Casey Goguts sits eighth in the conference for fielding with 120 putouts and a .992 fielding percentage. Goguts (3rd) is also ranking for hitting along with Lauer (4th), Peyton Darnell (6th), and Tiffany Domingue (9th).
Nationally, Upstate is ranked fifth for ERA (1.32), sixth for stolen bases per game (2.81), 15th for win/loss percentage (.806), 23rd for batting average (.316), 35th for slugging percentage (.497), tied for 40th for triples per game (0.29), 42nd for strikeout-to-walk ratio (2.88), and 48th for fielding percentage (.972).
Furman: The Paladins most recently swept the series with Western Carolina Catamounts with 7-4, 7-1 and 9-1 wins in Cullowhee, N.C. Hannah Poole led Furman's offense against WCU with four runs, five hits, 10 RBI, and one stolen base. Riley Ludlam leads the Paladins with a .431 batting average along with 15 runs, 31 hits, eight doubles, six homeruns, 26 RBI, 57 total bases, and two stolen bases. Sierra Tufts leads the Paladins pitching staff with a 3.64 ERA, six wins, six complete games, 75.0 innings pitched, and 50 strikeouts.
