Prentice Leads Spartans Through Tough Sea Best Invitational Field

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. – Competing against a highly competitive field at the prestigious TPC Sawgrass - Dye's Valley Course, the USC Upstate men's golf team embarked on their spring season at the Sea Best Invitational. Facing seven teams in the top-100 of the Spikemark Clipp'd rankings, the Spartans posted scores of 309-297-297-903 and finishing in 15th.
Leading USC Upstate was freshman Alec Prentice, who emerged as a standout performer, finishing tied for 33rd. Prentice showcased his ability with consistent play, carding scores of 74-74-71-219. Other performances also came from Cameron Biddle, who achieved a milestone by firing a career second-round low of 71.Â
Head Coach Todd Lawton said, "It's always good to have eyes on this early in the season so we can work on a plan to be better as the season progresses." Additionally, Coach emphasized the positive moments witnessed throughout the week while acknowledging areas for improvement.
In addition to individual achievements, Spartan golfers Cameron Biddle and Barrett Josey added to the team's highlights by carding two of the nine eagles recorded in the tournament field.Â
The University of Florida emerged as the 2024 Sea Best Invitational winner. The Gators showed out with impressive team rounds of 286-276-280, culminating in a total score of 842. Meanwhile, individual honors were claimed by Robbie Higgins of North Florida, whose remarkable performance saw him ascend four spots in the final round to secure the individual title. Higgins' consistent play throughout the event, highlighted by scores of 69-71 and an outstanding 65 in the final round, resulted in a total score of 205, securing his spot atop the leaderboard.
