SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Looking to extend its winning streak in Big South Conference openers to six, USC Upstate baseball saw its streak come to an end, falling 7-4 to Radford Friday afternoon at Cleveland S. Harley Park in the team's first league game of the 2025 campaign.
Leading the Spartans offensively, redshirt sophomore centerfielder
Scott Newman became the first Spartan in 2025 to secure a multi-homer game, slugging a pair Friday. He becomes the 14
th different player in program history to record a multi-homer game, collecting the 21
st instance during the program's Division I era (2007-pres.) and 24
th overall in program history. Adding an intentional walk in his fourth plate appearance, Newman reached thrice on the day while extending his hitting streak to a team-high 10 games.
Sophomore shortstop
Vance Sheahan joined Newman with a multi-hit effort, recording his eighth multi-hit game of the year, second-most on the club behind Newman's nine. With a single in the sixth inning, redshirt freshman leftfielder
Henry Zenor improved his reached base streak to 13 games, the longest active streak by a Spartan and the second-longest streak by a Spartan in 2025.

- B1: Slugging the first of his two long balls of the day, Scott Newman put the Spartans on the board as he exited the yard to straightaway center.
- T3: Delivering the Highlanders the lead, Hunter Keen drove home a pair with a single into center with the second run scoring just ahead of Keen being thrown out looking to take an extra base.
- T4: Extending the Radford lead, Eli Hudgins launched a three-run shot to right.
- B4: Getting a run back for the Spartans, Newman laced a no-doubt homer down the leftfield line.
- T5: Taking back its run, Radford hung another on the board behind a Jhonkeanu Perez solo shot.
- B5: Lifting a sac fly to left, Preston Lucas drove home Scott Campbell from third, securing Upstate's third tally of the afternoon.
- B7: Splitting the right-center gap with a double, Jake Armsey picked up an RBI as he scored Alex Ritzer.
- T9: Adding another RBI to his daily total, Perez ended the day's scoring with a sac fly.

- Slugging a pair of home runs Friday, Scott Newman notched the program's 24th multi-homer game, the 21st instance of a multi-homer game during the team's Division I era (2007-pres.). He's the first Spartan with a multi-homer game since Noah Sullivan's two-homer day versus Charleston Southern on April 20, 2024.
