GREENSBORO, N.C. – USC Upstate baseball's
Scott Newman generated additional hardware, being named an American Baseball Coaches Association/Rawlings Gold Glove finalist, the ABCA announced Monday afternoon. He is the first known Spartan to feature as a finalist—honored since 2021—and seeks to become the first player to win a Gold Glove in program history.
Newman, a redshirt sophomore from Glenview, Ill., fashioned a .983 fielding percentage, committing just three errors in 174 chances. He collected three outfield assists, gunning down a pair of runners at second and one at the plate. At the plate, he scored a program record 73 runs while slashing .300/.410/.582 with a team-best 19 homers.
