Women's Soccer has Second Straight Home Game, Facing Winthrop

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – USC Upstate women's soccer returns to County University Soccer Stadium Saturday afternoon, welcoming Big South rival Winthrop as part of USC Upstate's Family and Alumni Weekend. Kickoff between the Spartans and Eagles is scheduled for 2:30 p.m., with the match available to stream on ESPN+.

The afternoon will also serve as part of USC Upstate's Family and Alumni Weekend, with former Spartans and families returning to campus for a full weekend of events. Women's soccer will celebrate its alumni as part of Saturday's match at County University Soccer Stadium.
The Spartans enter Saturday riding a three-match winning streak and carrying a 7-2-3 overall record with a perfect 3-0 mark in Big South play. Upstate has also been unbeaten at home this season, posting a 3-0-1 record at County University Soccer Stadium.
Upstate continued its strong start to conference play Wednesday night with a 4-1 victory over Presbyterian. Four different Spartans found the back of the net in the win, as Raegan Bell, Giulia Altomare, Kylie White and Annabelle Wunderlich each scored. The victory followed conference wins over Charleston Southern and Longwood, giving Upstate three consecutive victories to open Big South action.
Offensively, the Spartans have scored 25 goals through 12 matches, averaging just over two goals per game. Liana Bryant leads the attack with six goals and 16 points, while freshman Jasmyn Mitchner follows with five goals and 13 points. Cansu Kara has helped create opportunities throughout the season, leading the team with six assists while adding a goal of her own.
Upstate has also been effective defensively, allowing 12 goals through 12 matches while recording multiple shutouts. The Spartans have surrendered just two goals through their first three completed conference matches.
SCOUTING WINTHROP
Winthrop enters Saturday with a 3-8-1 overall record and an 0-3 mark in Big South play. The Eagles are coming off a 5-0 loss to Longwood on Wednesday and will look to snap a three-match losing streak.
Monssi Avila-Gutierrez leads the Winthrop attack with four goals and one assist for a team-high nine points. Zaria Winston has added two goals, while Amalie Steen has one goal and one assist. As a team, Winthrop has scored 12 goals while averaging 12.3 shots per match.
Saturday's matchup continues a series in which Winthrop holds a 7-4-1 all-time advantage. Upstate claimed the most recent meeting between the two programs, earning a 3-2 victory in Rock Hill during the 2025 season.
