
Spartans Welcome Charleston Southern and Presbyterian for Big South Weekend

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The USC Upstate volleyball team returns home this weekend looking to snap a four-match skid as the Spartans welcome Charleston Southern and Presbyterian to the G.B. Hodge Center for a pair of Big South Conference matches.
Upstate, currently 7-7 overall and 0-3 in Big South play, opens the weekend Friday night against Charleston Southern at 6 p.m. The Spartans will then host Presbyterian Saturday at 4 p.m. Saturday's match will be streamed on ESPN+.
SCOUTING CHARLESTON SOUTHERN
Charleston Southern enters Friday's matchup with an 8-7 overall record and a 0-2 mark in conference play. The Buccaneers have dropped their last two matches, including a five-set setback at Winthrop and a four-set loss at Presbyterian.
Charleston Southern has been one of the Big South's more productive offensive teams, averaging 12.7 kills and 1.7 service aces per set while hitting .210 as a team. The Buccaneers also average 15.0 digs per set.
Brynn Minter leads the Buccaneers with 233.5 points and 30 service aces, while Faith Burch has added 164.5 points. Emma Bednarek has been a force at the net with 31 total blocks, while Presley Morris leads the team with 214 digs. Adeline Wieler has contributed 160 digs and 22 service aces.
The Spartans and Buccaneers will meet for the first time this season Friday night in Spartanburg.
SCOUTING PRESBYTERIAN
Presbyterian enters the weekend 7-9 overall and 1-1 in Big South play. The Blue Hose opened conference play with a four-set victory over Charleston Southern before falling at Gardner-Webb and Winthrop last weekend.
Presbyterian is averaging 11.5 kills, 14.4 digs and 2.3 blocks per set this season. The Blue Hose have also been effective at the net, recording 133.5 total blocks through their first 16 matches.
Courtney Williams leads Presbyterian with 150 kills and is hitting .280 on the season. Celimar Hoyos has directed the offense with 268 assists, while Julia Yurkovich and Meredith Reisman have provided additional production at the net.                                                                     Â
Upstate and Presbyterian will meet Saturday at 4 p.m. inside the G.B. Hodge Center.
SPARTANS TO WATCH
Upstate enters the weekend led offensively by Summer Kohler, who has recorded a team-high 210 kills and averages 3.82 kills per set. Kensley Haneline has added 126 kills while hitting a team-best .314 and leads the Spartans with 50 blocks. Tien Murray has contributed 67 kills, 15 service aces and a team-high 58 blocks.
Setter Kamyla Vega David has paced the Upstate offense with 343 assists, while Sophia Overholt leads the Spartans defensively with 254 digs.
