Â
Leading the Spartans at the plate, redshirt sophomore shortstop Maloy Heaghney and redshirt sophomore centerfielder Henry Zenor each extended their team-best hitting streaks to seven games, recording a pair of hits for the fourth multi-hit games of their seasons. Also recording two hits apiece, redshirt senior second baseman Jake Armsey and redshirt sophomore catcher Tyler Lang joined Heaghney and Zenor in combining to collect eight of Upstate's nine hits on the day.
Â
Zenor drove home three of the Spartans' runs, earning his team-best third multi-RBI effort of the campaign, registering a career-high three RBI for the second straight game. Heaghney and redshirt senior third baseman Alex Ritzer added the other RBI for the Spartans.
Â
On the mound, freshman right-handed pitcher Ben Chuttey and junior left-handed pitcher Jack Gibson—making his USC Upstate debut—combined for 2.1 innings of scoreless relief for Upstate. Chuttey struck out two of the four batters he faced, his first multi-strikeout game as a Spartan.
