STATESBORO, Ga. – Putting itself in position to win another weekend slate and capture its first weekend series win of the season, USC Upstate baseball fell short of its goal, dropping Sunday's series finale at Georgia Southern by a 9-8 margin. The Eagles clawed for four runs in the eighth, securing the come-from-behind win.
Â
The Spartans jumped on Georgia Southern early as redshirt sophomore catcher Tyler Lang laced a two-run shot in the first inning, his first home run of the season. Following an Eagle run in the second, Upstate tacked on two runs in the third and three runs in the fifth, carrying a 7-1 advantage at the game's midpoint.
Â
Georgia Southern pulled closer with four runs between the fifth and sixth frames before Upstate added another tally in the seventh. The Eagles swung momentum with a four-run eighth to take the lead.

Pacing the Spartans at the plate, redshirt senior third baseman Jake Armsey and Lang each notched three-hit days, tying their career-highs for hits in a single game. Armsey reached base five times on the afternoon, adding a pair of walks to his three hits. Senior first baseman Wylie Waters registered Upstate's other multi-hit effort with two hits while joining Lang (two RBI) with a multi-RBI game, driving in three.

How It Happened
- T1: Leaving the yard down the leftfield line, Tyler Lang put Upstate on the board with a two-run shot.
- B2: Recording the first of his six RBI on the day, Bryson Trammell roped a double down the rightfield line.
- T3: Getting their run back plus one more, the Spartans scored twice in the third. The first plated by a Trey Bentley single back up the middle before the final crossed as Bentley was caught in a rundown with runners on the corners.
- T5: After the first three hitters of the inning reached base, Jake Armsey drew a walk with the bases juiced, pushing across the first run of the frame. Upstate hung two additional tallies on the board behind a Wylie Waters single to left, capping the three-run inning.
- B5: Matching the Spartans' three-spot in the top half of the inning, Georgia Southern used an RBI single from Sean White and a two-run double from Trammell for its own three-run frame.
- B6: Drawing closer, the Eagles took advantage of a Spartan throwing error to score their fifth run.
- T7: Notching his third RBI of the day, Waters shot a single back through the middle, scoring Armsey from first.
- B8: Loading the bases, Georgia Southern notched four runs in the half inning to complete its comeback. The Eagles' first tally crossed on a fielders' choice before Trammell delivered a bases-clearing double to plate the final three runs of the day.
