Baseball Embarks on Five-Game Road Swing, Beginning Wednesday at Charlotte

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Coming off its first weekend of Big South Conference play, USC Upstate baseball embarks on a five-game road swing, beginning Wednesday with a 4 p.m. ET first pitch at Charlotte. The Spartans and 49ers meet for the second straight season after not meeting for 11 years, rekindling a series that met each year from 2008-14 with the 13th meeting in the Spartans' Division I era (2007-pres.).

USC Upstate: One of two Spartans to post a slugging percentage of 1.000 or better in the three-game series against High Point, redshirt sophomore catcher Tyler Lang saw three of his five hits last weekend go for extra bases. As part of a career day Saturday, featuring career-highs for hits, RBI, and runs scored, he notched his first career multi-homer game, the first of the season for the Spartans. Lang enters the midweek ranked second in the Big South with a .400 batting average and eight doubles, both team-leading marks.

Charlotte: Heading the 49ers lineup with 32 hits, a total ranking fifth in the American Conference, senior utility player Spencer Nolan post a .390 batting average entering Tuesday's midweek contest at South Carolina. He's one of four players starting all 19 games for Charlotte, as he ranks second on the club in all three slash-line categories. Of his 32 hits this season, 10 have gone for extra bases, including a team-high eight doubles.
