
Upstate Softball travels to Longwood for a three-game series in Big South Play

SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Continuing road play in the week of March 23-March 29, USC Upstate Softball travels to Farmville, Virginia for their second weekend series in Big South play, taking on Longwood University on Saturday, March 28th and Sunday, March 29th. Â
OverviewÂ
The Spartans and Lancers meet for the first time since May 8, 2025, where the Spartans avenged a weekend series sweep two weeks prior in the weekend series sweep. Longwood took the weekend series on the weekend of April 26-27, and the Spartans responded with overcoming the Lancers at the 2025 Big South Softball Championships with a 12-3 victory two weeks later. Upstate comes into the weekend with a 20-13 (3-0 Big South) record following a weekend sweep over the 2026 Preseason Big South Favorites, Radford. Longwood comes into the weekend with a 15-22 (2-1 Big South) record where the Lancers overcame Charleston Southern in their opening conference weekend series. Fans who will not be able to attend the weekend series will be able to watch all three games on TV as the entire weekend series will be streamed live on ESPN+. Â

Players to WatchÂ
USC Upstate: Freshman Infielder, Alyssa Davenport continues to find rhythm in her collegiate career being ranked third batting .366 through 33 games. Davenport adds 37 hits, one home run, 19 RBI and 11 stolen bases while adding 10 multi-hit games (five with two hits, four with three hits and one with four hits). Davenport has seen time at second base, left field and majority the rest at third base proving to have the versatility that fits Upstate Softball. Davenport adds 57 assists and 33 putouts while having two double plays with a .938 fielding percentage. As Alyssa Davenport continues to grow in her career, she will be a player to keep an eye on as she has proven that her impact can help turn the tide through a long series.Â
Longwood: Sophomore Catcher, Brooke Bennett has taken a step of growth for Longwood leading the Lancers with a .394 batting average, 39 hits, eight home runs, 29 RBI, seven doubles, one triple and 18 runs scored. Bennett is second on the team with eight multi-hit games (three with two, four with three, one with four) and adds seven multi-RBI games. Bennett added one home run against Charleston Southern and added a season-high of four hits against NC Central in midweek action. Brooke Bennett will be a player to keep an eye on as Longwood looks to battle with Upstate through three games. Â
Up next for the SpartansÂ
Following a weekend away from Hub City, Upstate Softball will return preparing for their next weekend series in Big South play, hosting Gardner-Webb University on Friday, April 3 for a doubleheader beginning at 3:00 P.M. Eastern with Game Two to follow at 5:00 P.M. Eastern. Game three will follow on Saturday, April 4th on the national stage at 4:00 P.M. Eastern as Game Three is slated to be aired on ESPNU marking the sixth consecutive appearance and marks the second meeting on ESPNU between the two programs. Â
