SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Closing out its three-game weekend series by going for a sweep on the front half of the team's four-game stretch against teams from the Holy City, USC Upstate baseball fell in its series finale against Charleston Southern Sunday, dropping an 11-3 decision at Cleveland S. How It Happened
- B2: Upstate put itself on the board first as it benefited from a Charleston Southern fielding error on a muffed pop-up with two outs. Running on contact, Wylie Waters scored from second as the ball hit the ground.
- T4: Fighting back to tie the contest, Charleston Southern's Gavin Speirs knotted the game with an RBI double to right-center. He'd later score on a sac fly off the bat of Blake Edgmon.
- T7: Expanding their lead, the Buccaneers scratched five tallies in the seventh. A hit-by-pitch with the bases loaded preceded a two-run single from Garrison Barile and an RBI double from Speirs to plate four of the five runs. The fifth crossed after an Upstate fielding error on Barile's base knock.
- T8: Adding two more runs to the board for Charleston Southern, Tyler Wright drove home two with a single to right-center.
- B8: Getting a pair of runs back for the Spartans, Waters cleared the scoreboard in left-center with a two-run blast.
- T9: Earning the runs back it surrendered in the prior half inning, Speirs slugged a two-run homer of his own.
