Men's Golf Advances to Big South Championship Match Play for Second Straight Year, Fueled by Five-Under Finish from Alec Prentice

FRIPP ISLAND, S.C. – USC Upstate men's golf is back on Fripp Island for the Big South Men's Golf Championship. After three rounds of stroke play, the Spartans finished second, advancing to match play for the second straight year with a three-under par score of 849. They look to defend their 2025 Big South Conference Championship Title.
Entering match play as the two seed, Upstate will face #3 Winthrop in the semifinals. The match starts at 8:00 am tomorrow on Hole 10, and the winner advances to face the winner of #2 Presbyterian and #4 High Point for the final.
The Spartans started the tournament off strong, sitting atop the leaderboard at three under as a team. Alec Prentice held the lead on the individual side, sitting at five under after the first round. A cold and windy second round challenged the Spartans, but the team responded in the third round, posting an eight-under 276.
Alec Prentice led the Spartans, carding rounds of 66-73-69 to finish five under, tying for second place. Prentice had 12 birdies throughout the tournament, including a bogey-free first round.
Finishing in the top-15, Jackson Stone went 75-72-67 for 214, totaling 13 birdies across all three rounds.
Jaskaran Sohal carded 70-76-71, finishing the third round even with par to secure a top 20 finish.
In the second round, Nate Heller was subbed in for Herman Holst. Immediately making an impact, Heller shot an even 71 in the second round, closing the third round with a two-under 69.
Upstate ranked first in eagles, totaling three, and fourth in birdies with 48. The team also excelled on par 4s.
