Women's Soccer Heads to North Carolina to take on Charlotte

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Following an unbeaten start through its first two matches of the 2026 campaign, USC Upstate women's soccer returns to the road Sunday evening as the Spartans make the short trip north to take on Charlotte. Kickoff from Jen Gaber Field is scheduled for 6 p.m., with the match available on ESPN+.
The Spartans enter Sunday's matchup with a 1-0-1 record after earning their first victory of the Sam Odell era Thursday night, defeating Davidson 3-2 in the 2026 home opener. Upstate opened the season with a 1-1 road draw against the College of Charleston before returning home and producing a three-goal performance against the Wildcats.
Players to Watch
Upstate's attack has featured contributions throughout the lineup through the opening two matches. Liana Bryant enters Sunday having scored in each of the Spartans' first two contests. The sophomore newcomer scored Upstate's first goal of the season in the ninth minute against Charleston before delivering the game-winning goal in the 72nd minute against Davidson.
Jasmyn Mitchner also made her presence felt against Davidson, finishing with three points after scoring the opening goal and assisting Bryant's game-winner. Mitchner put the Spartans ahead just 7:18 into the match, with Cansu Kara and Danielle Trovato earning assists on the goal. Annabelle Wunderlich added her first goal as a Spartan, converting from the penalty spot in the 16th minute.
In goal, Upstate received a seven-save performance against Davidson as the Spartans held off the Wildcats despite facing 18 shots and nine attempts on goal.
Charlotte enters Sunday with a 2-1 record after opening the season with consecutive victories over Furman and Radford. The 49ers began the year with a 2-1 home victory against Furman as Allie Metcalf converted a late penalty kick for the game-winner. Charlotte followed with a 2-0 road victory at Radford to improve to 2-0.
The 49ers suffered their first setback of the season Thursday evening, falling 3-0 on the road against NC State in Raleigh.Â

- USC Upstate is 1-0-1 through its first two matches of 2026 and remains unbeaten under first-year head coach Sam Odell.
- The Spartans have scored four goals through their first two matches after scoring once at Charleston and three times against Davidson.
