Women's Soccer Set to Host Hampton

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – USC Upstate women's soccer returns to County University Soccer Stadium Sunday evening as the Spartans welcome Hampton for their second home match of the 2026 season. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. with the match available on ESPN+.
The Spartans enter Sunday's matchup with a 1-1-1 record through their opening three matches in the 2026 season.Â
Last Time Out
Upstate battled Charlotte through a scoreless opening half last Sunday before the 49ers broke through with the match's lone goal in the 51st minute.
Goalkeeper Hannah Wilt helped keep the Spartans within striking distance, making three saves, while Upstate's attack increased its pressure during the second half. Liana Bryant placed both of her attempts on goal, while Katelyn Economopoulos and Nevaeh Roark also generated scoring opportunities. The Spartans earned all four of their corner kicks following halftime but were unable to find the equalizer.
Scouting Hampton
Hampton arrives in Spartanburg with an 0-2-1 record under first-year head coach Sam Cain. The Pirates opened the season with losses to Indiana and Temple before earning a 1-1 draw against Howard at the HBCU Women's Soccer Invitational at Audi Field.
The Pirates generated their strongest offensive performance of the young season against Howard, finishing with a 19-8 advantage in shots, a 9-4 edge in shots on goal and a 4-2 advantage in corner kicks.
After trailing for much of the match, Hampton found an equalizer in the 85th minute when Jayda Sutton finished a feed from Nylah Jennings. Sutton's goal was her first of the season, while goalkeeper Jacqueline Jenkins made three saves.
Hampton returns 14 players from its 2025 roster and is playing its first season under Cain.
Series History
Sunday renews a former Big South Conference matchup between the Spartans and Pirates. Upstate holds a 5-0-1 advantage in the all-time series against Hampton and will look to remain unbeaten against the Pirates.
