SPARTANBURG, S.C. – USC Upstate women's soccer used a three-goal first half and a strong defensive performance to earn a commanding 4-0 victory over Hampton Sunday night at County University Soccer Stadium.

The victory moved the Spartans to 2-1-1 on the season, while Hampton fell to 0-3-1. Upstate finished the night with four different scoring contributions and recorded its first shutout of the season.

Upstate wasted little time getting on the scoreboard as Liana Bryant opened the scoring just 3:29 into the match. Lily MacCausland and Jasmyn Mitchner combined to set up Bryant, who gave the Spartans an early 1-0 advantage.

The Spartans doubled their lead just over seven minutes later. Katelyn Economopoulos found the back of the net in the 11th minute for her first goal as a Spartan, pushing Upstate's advantage to 2-0.

Bryant struck again before halftime, completing her brace in the 39th minute off an assist from Annabelle Wunderlich. The goal sent Upstate into the break holding a commanding 3-0 advantage.

Upstate controlled much of the opening 45 minutes, outshooting Hampton 12-5 and earning seven corner kicks. The Spartans also put consistent pressure on the Pirates' back line throughout the half.

The Spartans added their fourth and final goal in the 58th minute. Defender Danielle Trovato joined the scoring after receiving a pass from Cansu Kara, giving Upstate a 4-0 advantage that it carried through the final whistle.

Bryant led the Spartan attack with two goals and four points, while Economopoulos and Trovato each added a goal. MacCausland, Mitchner, Wunderlich and Kara each recorded an assist.
Upstate finished the match with a 15-10 advantage in shots, including a 7-2 edge in shots on goal. The Spartans also generated 11 corner kicks compared to three for Hampton.

On the defensive end, goalkeeper Hannah Wilt made two saves across the full 90 minutes to secure the clean sheet and her first victory in goal for the Spartans.
