
Spartans Face Tough Road Test at Clemson

CLEMSON, S.C. – The USC Upstate volleyball team returns to the road Sunday afternoon when the Spartans travel to take on Clemson at Jervey Gym. First serve is set for 3 p.m., with the match streaming on ACCNX.
Upstate enters the matchup at 7-3 overall after earning back-to-back victories over Western Carolina. The Spartans opened the home-and-home series with a 3-1 win in Cullowhee on Sept. 17 before returning home Friday night and sweeping the Catamounts, 3-0.
In Friday's sweep, Summer Kohler paced the Spartans with 13 kills and 14 digs for her second consecutive double-double. Kensley Haneline added 11 kills while hitting .450, while Sophia Overholt led the defensive effort with 18 digs. Sarah O'Connor recorded 16 assists and Kamyla Vega David added 14 as Upstate finished with 45 kills, five aces and seven blocks.
Kohler continues to lead the Spartans offensively, entering Sunday with 142 kills and 3.94 kills per set while hitting .209. Haneline ranks second with 85 kills and leads the team with a .346 hitting percentage. Sophia Spivey has added 62 kills, while Tien Murray has recorded 45 kills.
Vega David has directed the Upstate offense with 254 assists, while O'Connor has contributed 103 assists. Defensively, Overholt leads the Spartans with 164 digs, followed by Kohler with 93 and Vega David with 91. Murray leads Upstate with 41 blocks, while Haneline has added 32.
The Spartans have also produced a strong offensive start to the season, hitting .205 as a team with 463 kills and 428 assists through eight matches. Upstate has collected 53 service aces and 75.5 total blocks during the campaign.
Clemson enters Sunday's matchup at 5-6 after falling to New Hampshire, 3-0, on Friday night. Maddie Anspaugh leads the Tigers' attack, while Addi Rains recorded a career-best 19 digs in the loss.
The Tigers hold a 9-2 advantage in the all-time series, including a 3-1 victory over the Spartans on Sept. 12, 2025. Clemson is 4-0 against Upstate at Jervey Gym.
