Jake McKown

Coach McKown rejoined the USC Upstate Track & Field program fo the 2023-2024 season. McKown is over Sprints, Hurdles, and Horizontal Jumps (Long Jump & Triple Jump). McKown is an alumnus of the university, as well as an alumnus of the USC Upstate Track & Field program. 

 Prior to coaching at USC Upstate, McKown had a 1-year stint at Riverside High School, in Greenville, SC, as the school’s Director of Track & Field, overseeing both the boy’s and girl’s teams (7th-12th grade). During his time at Riverside, McKown was able to take the boys track & field team to an 8th place ranking in 2023, from a 23rd place ranking in 2022. He also was able to help the girls team move up to an 8th place ranking in 2023, from a 14th place ranking in 2022. McKown was named 2x 2023 SCHSL Region 2 AAAA Coach of the Year (boys & girls divisions). Under his guidance, the program also produced x12 school records, x14 All-Region athletes, x8 All-State athletes, x14 SCHSL Region 2 AAAA Champions, x4 SCHSL AAAA Upper State Champions, and x2 SCHSL AAAA State Champions.  

After graduating from USC Upstate, McKown spent a year and a half with the North Greenville University’s athletics department, as a graduate assistant for the strength and conditioning department. McKown worked his way into the title of Director of Speed Development and worked with all teams in the aspects of speed and agility development. While at North Greenville University, McKown was a volunteer Track and Field coach and lead the Sprints & Hurdles event groups. 

McKown participated in Division I track and field at USC Upstate (2012-2015) and Coastal Carolina University (2011-2012). While competing for USC Upstate, McKown was honored with 3x All-Conference accolades in the Atlantic Sun Conference. McKown is the previous USC Upstate school record holder in the 400m Hurdles and Javelin.  

 McKown graduated from USC Upstate in May of 2015 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Interdisciplinary Studies in Speech Communication with a minor in Business Administration, before obtaining his Master’s degree in Business Administration from North Greenville University in December of 2020.  

McKown currently resides in the Greenville, SC area with his wife, Cassey and sons, Evan, Elijah, and Enzo.
