Spartanburg, S.C. - Head men's and women's cross country and track & field coach Jimmy Stephens announces the 2007-08 schedules for the men's and women's cross country and track programs.
"We are very excited about the upcoming season," said Stephens. "We are honored to bring back the great tradition in cross country and to add track & field. We have a challenging schedule ahead of us. The schedule should allow us to evaluate where we are talent-wise and in the development of the our student-athletes. We feel like we have some strong kids coming in and hope to build a team that will eventually compete for an Atlantic Sun Conference title."
The men's and women's cross country teams will run at the same six meets, opening the season at the USC Opener in Columbia on Aug. 31. The Spartans will then host the college portion of the Eye Opener at the Milliken Research Park on Sept. 8 before hitting the road for meets at UNC Charlotte, The Citadel, Furman, and the A-Sun Championships.
The men's and women's indoor track teams will also run at the same meets, opening the season on Dec. 1-2 at Clemson. The Spartans will participate in meets at East Tennessee State, North Carolina, and the A-Sun Championships. The outdoor track teams will run in seven events, starting the season at the Coastal Carolina Invitational on Mar. 15. The Spartans will participate in meets at UNC Charlotte, Winthrop, Furman, Western Carolina, and at the Penn Relays, while the men's team will also compete in the A-Sun Championships.
