Upstate Women's Track Wraps Up Season at Orange and Purple Classic

CLEMSON, S.C. - The USC Upstate women's track and field team ended its first season of competition on Saturday with several good individual performances at the Orange and Purple Classic hosted by Clemson University Saturday at the Rock Norman Track Facility.
In her first competition in the women's 3000 meter steeplechase, freshman distance runner Emily Tangwar came home with a second-place finish and a time of 11:40.74, completing a tremendous indoor and outdoor track season that included winning three events at the A-Sun Indoor Championships in early March.
Freshman sprinter Kiah White, who came into the meet riding some recent success, ended her season with a seventh-place finish in the 400 meter dash with a time of 1:01.16.
In the field events, freshman jumper Melissa Billups finished ninth in the women's long jump with a jump of 15-09.00 and freshman thrower Dee Dee Allen came in seventh in the women's javelin with a throw of 97-05.00.
The USC Upstate men's track and field team will compete for the final time this season when they host the Atlantic Sun Outdoor Championships May 16-17 in Clemson.
