CLEMSON, S.C. - The USC Upstate men's track and field team wrapped up its first season Saturday on the final day of the Atlantic Sun Conference Track and Field Championships at Clemson University's Rock Norman Track and Field Complex and came away with several solid performances to build on for next season.
Upstate freshman athlete Perrish Goggins, who came into the final day of competition with a slim lead in the decathlon, struggled on the final day, finishing seventh overall and was fourth in the discus portion with a throw of 93-07 (28.53 m).
Junior decathlete Marc Wartenberger, came home in eighth place overall and finished in the top-four in three of the final five events including third in the discus (98-06, 30.03 m), fourth in the pole vault (10-11.50, 3.34 m) and fourth in the javelin (131-09, 40.17 m).
After fighting a nagging injury from the decathlon, Goggins came back to score points for Upstate in the high jump, finishing fourth with a jump of 6-04.75 (1.93 m). He was also sixth in the triple jump with a jump of 44-02.00 (13.46 m).
