
Healey Posts 14 Digs To Move Into Seventh In The All-Time Record Book At Kennesaw State

KENNESAW, Ga. - Junior Megan Healey (St. Louis, Mo./Ursuline Academy) moved into seventh place in school history with 1,043 career digs as she posted a match-high 14 digs, but the USC Upstate volleyball team fell to Kennesaw State, 3-0 (25-19, 25-19, 25-19), on Friday night at the KSU Convocation Center.
Healey, the Spartans' libero, passed Erin Kopec (2000-03), who posted 1,036 digs from 2000-03. Now, the libero has her sights set on Lindsay Richardson, who posted 1,072 digs from 1994-97.
Sophomore Morgan Thomas (Plantation, Fla./St. Thomas Aquinas) posted a team-high nine kills to go with two blocks and freshman Mindy Quimby (Keenesburg, Colo./Weld Central) added eight kills and six digs for the Spartans (7-18 overall, 3-12 A-Sun). Junior Katie Downey (Belleville, Ill./Belleville West) added seven kills and four digs and freshman Emily Sanders (Sullivan, Ill./Sullivan) posted 17 assists and eight digs. Sophomore Morgan Bucciferro (Joliet, Ill./Minooka Community) added 14 assists and three kills.
With the score tied at 11 in the first set, the Owls (15-9 overall, 9-7 A-Sun) went on an 9-4 run capped by a kill from Callie Churchwell. With a 20-15 lead, the Owls were able to close out the set with sideouts, taking the 25-19 decision. The teams battled to a tie at 12 in the second set, but Holly Knight served five straight points for the Owls and Rachael Albright added three more points on her serve as the Owls pulled away to take the 25-19 win. In the third set, the teams again fought to a tie at 15 before Sabrita Gulley served up five straight points, thanks to two kills from Maja Kostic. The Spartans got no closer than three points the rest of the way as the Owls took their third straight set, 25-19.
Kennesaw State got 11 kills, 10 digs and four blocks from Chelsey Denesha and 11 kills and two blocks from Sabrita Gulley. Callie Churchwell posted nine kills and five blocks and Rachael Albright added 24 assists and four digs.
The Spartans wrap up their A-Sun road weekend by facing Mercer on Saturday at 3 p.m.
