
Healey Posts 11 Digs As Upstate Falls At Lipscomb, 3-0

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Junior Megan Healey (St. Louis, Mo./Ursuline Academy) posted 11 digs to lead the USC Upstate volleyball team against Atlantic Sun Conference-leading Lipscomb on Friday night, but a .389 hitting performance as a team led Lipscomb to a 3-0 (25-13, 25-18, 25-13) win over the Spartans at Allen Arena. The 11 digs helped Healey move within 44 digs of becoming the eighth player in school history to reach 1,000 in a career.
Sophomore Morgan Thomas (Plantation, Fla./St. Thomas Aquinas) led the Spartans (5-13, 1-8 A-Sun) with six kills and senior Morgan Bucciferro (Joliet, Ill./Minooka Community) added 12 assists. Freshman Emily Sanders (Sullivan, Ill./Sullivan) added nine assists and four digs and senior Karla Andree (Cypress, Calif./Cypress C.C.) added six digs.
In the first set, the Lady Bisons (15-3 overall, 10-0 A-Sun) had an 8-6 lead when Alex Kelly posted three straight kills to make it 11-6 and keyed a 17 -6 run that closed out the set and gave Lipscomb a 25-13 win.
Freshman Megan Quimby (Keenesburg, Colo./Weld Central) posted an two kills and an ace early in the second set to tie it at seven, but a 5-0 run from the Lady Bisons, led by two kills from Meghan Hinemeyer during the run. From there, Upstate could get no closer than four points and Lipscomb was able to hang on for a 25-18 win thanks to scoring four of the set's last five points.
In the third set, the Lady Bisons used a 9-4 run to take an 11-6 lead and used that momentum to take a 25-13 win as they hit .321 in the set to give their head coach Brandon Rosenthal his 100th with Lipscomb.
Kaycee Green led the Bisons with 13 kills and two blocks and Preseason A-Sun Player of the Year Kelly added 12 kills, 11 digs and five blocks. Erin Pierce posted 10 kills and six digs and Jake Pease notched 38 assists and eight digs.
The Spartans will wrap up their trip to the Music City on Saturday, when they face Belmont in an Atlantic Sun Conference match at 2 p.m. CT.
