When USC Upstate head women's golf coach Todd Lawton hit the recruiting trail for the 2010 signing class, he didn't have to go far as two players from the Upstate, Dorman's Taylor Pleier and Fort Mill High School's Amanda Hall, have signed to play golf for the Spartans.
Pleier, from Spartanburg, will graduate from Dorman in December as an Honor Roll student and begin classes at Upstate in January, though she will begin play for the Spartans next fall. She has been an integral part of Dorman's golf team for the last three years, leading the Cavaliers to three straight second-place finishes in the 4A state tournament. She finished eighth at the 2009 tournament with rounds of 82 and 79, was seventh in 2008 with rounds of 80 and 78, and was ninth in 2007 with rounds of 78 and 80. She is a three-time All-State selection, a three-time all-region pick and has earned two all-area honors from the Spartanburg Herald-Journal. She was an all-tournament selection after placing sixth in the 2009 Fort Dorchester Invitational and also claimed top finishes at The Lady Viking Classic (5th), South Aiken Thoroughbred Palmetto Preview (8th) and Anderson Sunshine Classic (2nd).
In addition to her play in high school, Pleier has also been a standout in amatuer golf. She tied for 10th at the 2009 The Blade Classic at Thornblade and has posted back-to-back fourth-place finishes in the Spartanburg County Women's Amateur Championship.
"Over the last few years, Taylor has consistently ranked as one of the best players in South Carolina," said Lawton. "While she will look to improve her scores in college, her ability to post low scores is evident. Her efforts have yielded three all-state selections. She is a strong leader and I know will contribute so much to our program on and off the course."

In addition to her play in high school, Hall has been active on the junior circuit. She finished seventh at the 2009 Peggy Kirk Bell Spring Tour Championship with rounds of 78 and 77. She also claimed a fourth-place finish at the 2009 Peggy Kirk Bell Girls' Golf Tour event at Bermuda Run with rounds of 78 and 81. She is also a standout in the classroom as an Honor Roll student.
"Amanda has proven that she can play a round of golf from start to finish," said Lawton. "A bad start doesn't hamper her competitiveness and her ability to score low. She has played a lot of tournaments and is a solid ball striker. Her course management is good and her desire to contribute on and off the course is great. Her personality is effervescent and inspires others."
