Duke Invitational Final Results
DURHAM, N.C. - A total of eight school records during the Duke Invitational at Wallace Wade Stadium. Five of those records came on the final day of competition.
In the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase, Christian Ritacco (Niceville, Fla./Niceville) shaved 20 seconds off of his school-record time that he set at last weekend's Catamount Classic. Ritacco finished 28th in today's event with a time of 9:59.19.
Freshman Abigail Osborne (Abbeville, S.C./Abbeville) was the lone female Spartan to set a new school mark. In the high jump, Osborne cleared a height of 5-01.00 (1.55m) to break the mark set by former Spartan Kelly Westfield at the 2008 Furman Invitational (5-00.00/1.52m).
Continuing the record-setting in the field events, Justin Crawford (Elgin, S.C./Lugoff-Elgin) posted a mark of 15-03.00 (4.65m) as he finished in the top-10 and was one of five competitors to clear that height. His previous school record came at last season's conference championships (15-01.00/4.60m).
David Dennison (Carlisle, Pa./Carlisle) broke teammate Cameron Thomas' record in the 800-meter run. Dennison finished 18th with a time of 1:58.14, surpassing his teammates record of 1:59.42 that was set last weekend. Thomas (Niceville, Fla./Niceville) finished 35th at the Duke Invitational with a time of 1:59.68. Dylan Taylor (Woodruff, S.C./Woodruff) also competed in the event and recorded a time of 2:11.98.
The final record of the day came in the 4x400 relay. The four man team of Cameron Thomas, David Dennison, Danny Moore (Spartanburg, S.C./Dorman) and Michael Meissner (Cottage Grove, Minn./UW-River Falls) finished in 3:27.05 as the team finished 17th. That time surpasses the old mark of 3:31.30 that was set by Cameron Thomas, Moore, Dustin Thomas (Harrisburg, N.C./Hickory Ridge) and Meissner at the 49er Classic.
The Spartans will return to action next week as they compete in the Sea Ray Relays in Knoxville, Tenn. and the Furman Invitational in Greenville, S.C.
