
Upstate Track & Field Sets Two School Records at Clemson

CLEMSON, S.C. – The USC Upstate men's and women's track & field teams recorded strong performances today at the Clemson Tiger Qualifier as sophomore Matt Johnson (Elgin, S.C.) and senior Jemeli Sang (Eldoret, Kenya) both registered school-best times.
Sang finished third in the women's 1,500-meter with an Upstate record time of 4:35.11. She broke the previous record of 4:36.54 set by senior Joan Tangwar (Eldoret, Kenya) at Auburn's Tiger Track Classic in 2011.
In the men's 800-meter run, Johnson posted a program record time of 1:51.39 to claim third-place. He beat the previous record of 1:53.13 set by junior Cameron Thomas (Niceville, Fla.) at the 2012 Atlantic Sun Conference Outdoor Championship. Thomas came in sixth today in the 800-meter with a time of 1:53.40.
Junior Davey Dennison (Carlisle, Pa.) won the men's 1,500-meter race. He posted a time of 3:57.12. Sophomore Joey Daverson (Chesapeake, Va.) recorded a time of 4:17.64 in the same event.
