
Upstate Track Set for NCAA East Regional Preliminaries at UNF

NCAA East Regional Preliminaries Information - University of North Florida
Spartanburg, S.C. – Three members of the USC Upstate track & field programs – women's team member Jemeli Sang and men's team members Gilbert Kemboi and Kenny Sugishita – will represent the Spartans at the NCAA East Regional Preliminary Round Thursday at the University of North Florida.
Sang (Eldoret, Kenya) will represent the Spartan women in two events, qualifying for the 5,000-meter and the 10,000-meter runs. She will open the preliminary round of the East Regional Thursday night when she runs the 10,000-meter race at 9:40 pm. She will run the 5,000-meter race Saturday at 8:45 pm. She is the reigning A-Sun cross country champion as well as the conference's 10,000-meter outdoor track & field champion.
Kemboi (Eldoret, Kenya) qualified for the men's 10,000-meter run and will compete Thursday night at 9:00 pm. The reigning A-Sun cross country champion, he also won the A-Sun track & field championships in the indoor 3,000 and 5,000 meters as well as the outdoor titles in the 5,000 and 10,000 meters.
Sugishita (Arroyo Grande, Calif.) qualified for the discus and hammer throw. He will open competition Thursday afternoon at 1:00 pm in the discus. He will complete his East Regional preliminaries on Friday when he competes in the hammer throw at 10:00 am. He is the reigning A-Sun indoor champion in the shot put and weight throw and the outdoor champion in the hammer, shot and discus.
The 2012 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Preliminary rounds are May 24-26. The East Regional will be hosted by North Florida in Jacksonville, Fla.
