Spartanburg, S.C. – After settling into classes early in the semester, the USC Upstate women's golf team will jump into the 2013-14 season with full force playing in back-to-back tournaments over the next five days at the Eat-A-Peach Classic and Terrier Intercollegiate tournaments.
Upstate will start the season in the 54-hole Eat-A-Peach Classic Friday. The three-day event will be played on the Pine Lakes Golf Course at the Jekyll Island Golf Club in Jekyll Island, Ga. The course is the site of the A-Sun Championship and will be familiar to the returning players.
Mercer is hosting the Eat-A-Peach Classic. Joining the Spartans and Bears in the tournament is Florida Gulf Coast, Seminole State and S.C. State.
After returning to Spartanburg Sunday night, Upstate will make a quick turnaround and play in the Terrier Intercollegiate hosted by Wofford at the Country Club of Spartanburg. The 36-hole tournament will be played over two days and concludes Tuesday.
Joining Upstate and Wofford in the tournament is Appalachian State, The Citadel, High Point, Presbyterian and Savannah College of Art & Design.
Upstate head coach Todd Lawton will send the lineup of Rachel Reiling, Malika Allie, Brittany Lowe, Amanda Hall and Allea Hawkins into action at both tournaments. Allie Gennaula will play in the Terrier Intercollegiate as an individual. Reiling, Allie, Lowe and Hall are seasoned veterans and look to lead the Spartans this season. The four helped last year's team estanblish the program's lowest season stroke average in its eight-year history. Lowe and Reiling played in all 10 tournaments last season. Hall, who played in nine events, is the leading returning player with an 80.6 stroke average after turning in a 79.9 stroke average in 2012-13.
