
Upstate Captures Two First-Place Finishes at UNCG Spartans Team Challenge

Winston-Salem, N.C. – Dominique Nock and Janay Chisolm each posted first-place finishes on Sunday afternoon as the USC Upstate track and field team turned in a strong performance at the UNCG Spartans Team Challenge hosted by UNC Greensboro at the JDL Fast Track.
Nock and Chisolm highlighted the afternoon for the Spartan women as they posted a perfect 8-0 record in dual meet competition. The women also set one school indoor record, while three personal-bests were broken and one tied. The Upstate men went 2-2 in dual meet action and had five personal-bests achieved.
Nock continued her impressive start to the 60-meter indoor season recording a time of 7.73 to earn her first win of the year. She also teamed up with Ashley Edmond, Heaven Briggs and KeAndrea Ladson to finish second in the 4x400-meter relay with a time of 4:09.22.
Chisolm turned in a time of 11:31.04 in the 3000-meter run as the top three positions were occupied by Spartans. Danielle Horneff placed second with her time of 11:47.24 and Sarah Boyd was third at 12:23.76.
Briggs attained a new school indoor record, and personal-best, in the 400-meter dash following her time of 59.56. Draneisha Griffin set a new personal-best in the 200-meter dash after finishing fifth with a time of 26.22. Meagan Bailey tied her personal-best in the long jump event with a leap of 4.48-meters (14-08.50).
Kyle Jones led the Upstate men with two personal-bests broken on Sunday in the 60-meter hurdles and 400-meter dash. He clocked in a time of 8.90 seconds in the 60-meter hurdles and 52.73 in the 400-meter dash. Joshua Powers eclipsed a new personal-best in the 60-meter hurdles (8.65), Cameron Pratt in the 400-meter dash (52.51), Jonathan Jackson in the 60-meter dash (7.09), and Bryson Dawkins (2:03.63) and Ethan Dopp (2:05.87) both in the 800-meter run.
Dawkins and Mark Rennix had the highest individual finishes for the men. Dawkins had a third-place finish in the 800-meter run and Rennix was third in the 3000-meter run with his time of 9:27.35.
The Spartan men also earned a second-place finish from the quartet of Pratt, Jones, Jackson and Matt Johnson in the 400-meter relay with a time of 3:33.06.
Upstate returns to Winston-Salem this weekend (Jan. 31-Feb. 1) for the Hilton Garden Invitational.
