Raleigh, N.C. – Alexis Jacobs broke two school records and Jasmine Polite recorded a top-5 finish as the USC Upstate track and field team completed day one of the Raleigh Relays on Friday at the Paul H. Derr Track.
Jacobs capped off an opening day for the Spartans which also saw one school record tied on the women's side, while four personal-bests were set. She began by breaking her own school record in the shot put with a personal-best throw of 13.23-meters (43-05.00) that surpassed her mark set during the season-opening CCU Invitational. Jacobs followed by again breaking her own school record in the discus throw after her personal-best throw of 40.85-meters (134-00) broke the old record set last week at the 49er Classic.
Polite picked up her first top-5 finish of the season as she placed 3rd in section D of the 5000-meter run with a personal-best time of 17:25.59. She has finished at least ninth in each event she has participated in this season, with the third-place performance being her best.
Brittany Walls tied her own school record in the high jump as her personal-best leap of 1.65-meters (5-05.00) matched the mark recorded at last season's A-Sun Championships. She would go on to finish tied for 11th in the event.
Danielle Horneff achieved a new personal-best in the 5000-meter run for the second straight week as she ran an 18:59.78 in section F to finish in 10th place.
Brandon Goodman posted the best finish for the Upstate men as he tied for 24th in the long jump college section with a mark of 6.38-meters (20-11.25).
The Spartans wrap up competition at the Raleigh Relays Saturday beginning at 9:30 a.m. with the women's 10,000-meter run and goes until 4:45 p.m. with the women's 4x400-meter relay.
