Upstate Completes Day One of Hilton Garden Invitational

Winston-Salem, N.C. – Alexis Jacobs turned in a top-10 performance and Meagan Bailey set two personal-bests on Friday as the USC Upstate track and field team opened competition at the Hilton Garden Invitational inside the JDL Fast Track.
Jacobs registered her fifth top-10 finish this season after recording a 7th-place showing in the weight throw with a mark of 15.56-meters. It was also her third finish in the weight throw this season of 10th or better.
Bailey achieved a new personal-best in both the 60-meter hurdles and high jump. She posted a time in the 60-meter hurdles of 10.10 and had a leap of 1.52-meters in the high jump.
Along with Bailey, Keiyonna Gusby attained a personal-best in the 60-meter dash after running a time of 8.43. Draneisha Griffin placed 12th in the long jump after her leap of 5.35-meters.
Three Upstate athletes qualified for the semifinals of their respective track events in KeAndrea Ladson, Brenicke Johnson and Semaj Tolliver. Ladson had a qualifying time in the 60-meter hurdles of 9.26, while Johnson (7.89) and Tolliver (7.96) both advanced in the 60-meter dash.
In the women's distance medley relay event, the quartet of Anastasia Kolesnitchenko, Rebecca Elliott, Ashleigh Torres and Molly Bliss ran to an 8th-place finish after a time of 13:02.67.
Blake Hayes compiled the top individual performance on the men's side as he finished 23rd in the weight throw following a toss of 13.42-meters. The distance medley relay combination of Dan Castello, Jacob Collins, Joey Daversa and Calin Schumacher finished 11th with their time of 11:04.82.
The Spartans conclude the Hilton Garden Invitational on Saturday beginning at 9 a.m.
