
Upstate Competes in Season-Opening UNCG Early Bird 7-Way

Greensboro, N.C. – The USC Upstate track and field team began its 2015-16 indoor season Tuesday evening with 15 top-five performances during the UNCG Early Bird 7-Way inside the JDL Fast Track.
The Upstate women led the way on Tuesday with 13 finishes of fifth or better while the men's squad contributed two. The Spartans also received first-place showings from KeAndrea Ladson and Anastasia Kolesnitchenko.
Ladson logged three top-five individual finishes, and one in the 4x400-meter relay, led by her first-place performance in the high jump. The junior turned in a mark of 1.55-meters in the high jump, while also placing third in the 60-meter hurdles and fifth in the long jump.
Kolesnitchenko helped lead an Upstate sweep of the top three finishers in the 800-meter run along with Ashleigh Torres in second and Essence Jackson third. The senior held off Torres by two seconds after crossing the finish line with a time of 2:22.47.
Brenicke Johnson added a second-place finish in the 60-meter dash after running a time of 7.59.
The Spartan women also received finishes inside the top five from Draneisha Griffin (long jump), Jazmine Burse (60-meter hurdles), Courtney Bradley (400-meter run) and Kayla Jordon (400-meter run). In the 4x400-meter relay, Upstate placed third and fourth overall.
Kyle Drollette led the Spartan men with a pair of fifth-place showings in the 60-meter hurdles and 800-meter run. Drollette tallied a time of 8.57 in the 60-meter hurdles and ran the 800-meters in 2:05.00.
Upstate returns to action Jan. 15-16, 2016 at the ETSU Indoor Classic in Johnson City, Tenn.
